We’re back from BPM Europe 2014; another action-packed conference for Bizagi and almost as busy for adidas’ Workflow and Collaboration Manager, Eduardo Gonzalez!
Eduardo took centre stage to present ‘BPM Success Grows Faster When Bottom-up’, part of an initiative to combine the shared experience and perspective of 10 leading BPM industry practitioners.
Despite many BPM success stories in the two decades since BPM was coined, confusion and doubt still surround the discipline. When building from the bottom-up, introducing your initiative in well-understood terms can help overcome those initial barriers.
Often processes that seem ripe for improvement require cumbersome organizational changes. For your pilot, it is better to look deep into the organization to find the processes that cause your people most pain. At adidas, our data management team actually came to us, saying “make our data better.” Using Bizagi to close the gaps reduced our vendor onboarding process from 4 months to 40 days. Measurable, Fast, Contagious: more tips on how to choose the perfect first process here.
This really is the key to success. You don’t have to do everything at once. For example, if someone loves working with their Excel file, great. Define your first process, get it flowing right, and the data can come later. You’ll still see value and you can do Phase 2 – for example, pulling all the information into online forms – as a second step.
OK, that’s an overstatement, but if you’re going to build a system that people actually want to use, you have to accept that your model is unlikely to pass end-user scrutiny first time around. In fact, the stage between UAT and go-live is where most of the changes take place. Just make sure you have a BPM that is built for flexibility – like Bizagi!
At adidas, BPM/Workflow Solutions is a horizontal service providing value to many different areas – Operations, Retail, Marketing. And as word spreads, people want a piece of it. We estimate we can reuse 60% of our solution in different parts of the business: Bizagi’s unique data architecture makes building similar processes very quick and cost effective. In fact we aim to deliver new approval workflow solutions in just 3 days by assembling reusable assets.
Our social intranet integration (recently launched) will allow all our users to approve tasks on the company portal and also via their mobile. We’re confident this latest development will win BPM even more fans around the company.
